Serious Rule At The Yonkers Public Library
Some libraries have NO SMOKING or NO CELL PHONE signs on the front door. At the Yonkers Public Library? I’m amazed that this is such a problem as to necessitate a laminated sign. I mean, I wasn’t planning on bringing any balloons inside…But it’s sort of a downer to know I couldn’t if I suddenly…

Scouting An Abandoned Children’s Camp – Part 3
This is the final installment of our look at Camp Wishe, a children’s sleepaway camp that has been abandoned for more than 15 years. Click here for part 1 and here for part 2! At this point in our tour, you’ve hopefully come to know Camp Wishe as a classic American sleepaway camp, a warm…
The Adventure of Travel
In my post on Bloomingdale’s Le Train Blue restaurant, I mentioned how much I love old travel advertising. To me, vintage travel ads were about the adventure of travel, about the mysteries and romance waiting for you at just the cost of a ticket, and how getting somewhere was part of the experience. Whereas today’s…
Scouting Red Hook
I really don’t know Red Hook. I’ve been down once or twice before for shoots at the shipping docks, but I’ve always thought of it as a no-man’s-land. Among other reasons, there isn’t a subway anywhere in the area (the water taxi is the fastest option to the city), which pretty much kills it as…
Attention Florida Dog Lovers!
Speaking of dogs, a good friend of mine in Florida works with a dog rescue group, and recently wrote to see if I could help with a few dogs that are in desperate need of a new home. I know this is a NY blog, but we’ve got readers all over the place, and after…
Scars In Limestone: Finding Traces of the 1920 Wall Street Bombing
As I was scouting around Wall Street this past weekend, I noticed a number of tourists taking pictures of the usual sights: the New York Stock Exchange, Federal Hall… However, no one seemed to be paying any attention to one of the more interesting historical remnants, found at 23 Wall Street. Swing around to the…

Wait, is that math right?
Ha, check the sidebar for the break down.
Happy Thanksgiving to you, too, Nick–and to Lulu, too. And thanks for all the pleasure your blog brings me all year long!
As one of my earliest readers, means a ton you’ve been reading for so long. Thank you!
You keep putting up such great content, and I’ll keep reading! AND bringing along my friends.
Merry Christmas Nick! Always enjoy your site. I’ve sent you a few bucks and received a neat acknowledgement. Seeing the video, you
should consider being in a movie or two. Lulu looks like a happy pup
but I can see she doesn’t talk, unlike my dog, Sophia. 🙂
Mack
Thank you as always!
Fundraising= distasteful.
Ha, wait, why? Each post takes on average three hours minimum to put together, usually more for research and travel. Assuming three hour average times 125 posts last year, that’s 375 hours that could have been spent on forwarding my film career…and I feel that’s low. I started the donation system cause it meant that my site somehow tied in with my ambitions to become a director, and that those hours weren’t just being spent on a hobby. Makes sense to me – and my readers don’t seem to mind. In fact, the only people who have been weird about it are other NYC bloggers.
Pay no attention to the haters. I get way more value out of this site than pretty much any site that costs money – throwing a few dollars in your pocket is more than worth it.
It’s like a PBS fund drive; the folks who want to watch for free can still do so, but for the rest of us it’s an opportunity to say thank you. Not like you’re forcing anyone to pay up. 🙂
It’s been a pleasure donating for your film. I wish I could donate more, not only for the film, but in agreement for this wonderful site that makes me dream everyday. So keep the good work up, enjoy life and have a nice Thanksgiving!
PS. You look very pleasant! Thanks for the vid.
Thank you sir!
Yea, you’re right, I’m wrong. You do fantastic work on this site. Mea Culpa! Your movie should be tops.
